Applicants must be women who are registered Democrats and reside in Michigan.

Emerge Michigan will select 25 women who meet the criteria listed below and who we believe have the potential to be political leaders for the 2018 program.

While the only requirements for women in the program are to be registered Democrats who reside in Michigan, Emerge Michigan's ideal candidates are women who have a sense of what they want to run for and/or when they want to run. We encourage women on every part of their political journeys to apply. We give priority to women running within 1-3 years of applying for the program and an ideal candidate will run within 5 years of completing the Emerge program.

Emerge embraces diversity and encourages applications from all women regardless of age, race, color, national or ethnic origin, marital status, religious affiliation, sexual orientation or physical abilities.

Time Commitment

The success of the Emerge Michigan Program depends upon commitment to the program's entire schedule by each participant.  Over the six-month period, approximately 70 program hours are scheduled.  Some time outside of regularly scheduled seminars will be necessary for seminar preparation.

You will learn best practices in fundraising, networking and coalition building, honing your message, writing a field plan and stump speech, how to seek endorsements, public speaking, dealing with the media and the press and much more! All of these skills will make you a better and more polished candidate, giving you an edge!

During the course of the program, participants are also required to participate in fundraising activity that will benefit Emerge Michigan.

Arrival 8:00-8:30am. Dismissal varies, plan on 5:00pm

Cost

Participation in the Emerge Michigan program requires a tuition of $750 which includes material fees, meals etc. Please note that travel expenses are not included.

This money offsets, but does not nearly cover, the cost of Emerge Michigan’s out-of-pocket costs for providing the training sessions. Emerge Michigan believes that individual circumstances should NOT be a barrier to participation in the program so financial aid and scholarships are available on a case-by-case basis.
